The YMCA Boys and Young Men of Color strategy builds on, and invest in, pathways to success that will inspire and transform personal identities so that boys and young men of color reach their full potential. Through this strategy, the YMCA hopes to recreate the kind of equitable communities shown to improve the well-being of boys ad young men of color, individually and collectively, so they can achieve economic and social mobility in adulthood.
Program Objectives
The BYMOC program is built around Five Pillars. The goal is to support participants in:
- Social/Emotional Learning
- Diversity & Racial Equity
- Academic Success & College and Career Readiness
- Nurturing Skills
- Leadership Skills
Through this initiative, the YMCA hopes to recreate the kind of equitable communities shown to improve the well-being of boys and young men of color ages 11 - 18, individually and collectively so they can achieve economic and social mobility to adulthood. The program uses five action words or phrases:
- Never doubt who you are.
- Believe in yourself.
- Have a growth mindset.
- Be confident in your abilities.
- Education
Activities
BYMOC participants will engage in social-emotional learning, rites of passage, cultural awareness, racial equity, sporting events, community service, hip-hop chess, public speaking, education, and college readiness.
Meetings
BYMOC is held every other Thursday at the YMCA Association Resource Center, 801 Corporate Center Drive, Raleigh.
