POSITION SUMMARY:
 

The Regional Transportation Program Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the safe, efficient, and high-quality delivery of transportation services across the YMCA of the Triangle programs.  This position works collaboratively with the Association Fleet Superintendent and branch leadership to coordinate all aspects of transportation, including bus routes, vehicle assignments, hub stops, and daily dispatch operations.   

Key responsibilities include recruiting, onboarding, training, and supervising all bus drivers, ensuring compliance with licensing and safety standards while fostering a positive, service-oriented work culture.  The Supervisor manages daily scheduling, routing, and dispatching of transportation services, working closely with program staff to meet evolving transportation needs.   

Additionally, this position supports vehicle inspections, maintenance, and repairs in partnership with fleet personnel, contributing to the overall safety and reliability of the association’s transportation fleet. 


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
 

  • Model relationship-building skills in all interactions; maintain collaborative relationships with branch leadership staff, community program partners, and transportation team members.   
  • Maintain regular, clear, and concise communication within area of responsibility. 
  • Collaborate with branch leadership to develop, coordinate, and review transportation needs and bus routes. 
  • Build relationships and cultivates new community support programs in collaboration with Association staff. 
  • Maintain a Class B Commercial Driver’s License with passenger and air brake endorsements and meet all DOT requirements to drive a YMCA bus. 
  • Serve in various capacities to ensure successful service delivery, including driving, fueling, responding to emergencies, and covering unplanned needs.   
  • Ensure compliance with YMCA safety guidelines and standard operating procedures for all drivers and vehicle use.   
  • Oversee and diverse team of drivers, including recruiting, onboarding, scheduling, and supervision.  
  • Ensure driver files meet all DOT regulations in coordination with HR and the Association Fleet Superintendent.   
  • Promote and support the use of fleet management software among drivers.  
  • Lead and support transportation in-service training and new driver training programs, including annual content review and DOT-compliant CDL training. 
  • Assist with bi-annual driver skills verification. 
  • Coordinate vehicle assignments, maintenance, and repairs to minimize downtime. 
  • Ensure vehicles are clean, fueled, and ready for use. 
  • Supports transportation budget management through expense tracking and vehicle inventory oversight. 
  • Completion of all required annual trainings related to safety, compliance, and child protection as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Bachelors Degree preferred and 1-3 years of related experience. 
  • Minimum of three years' experience driving a commercial vehicle. 
  • Class B Commercial Driver’s License with both Passenger and Air Brakes endorsements.  
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office (i.e. Word, Excel, Outlook); experience preferred working with fleet management software. 
  • Must successfully meet YMCA of the Triangle Criminal Background Check, Motor Vehicle Record, and driver screening requirements.   
  • Safety certifications required: Basic Life Support, First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen. *Must be met within first 30 days of hire. 
  • Desire and ability to work with children. 
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse group of people from all social and economic segments of the community. 
  • Multi-lingual desired but not required.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use a computer for extended periods of time and be able to communicate using a computer and phone/smart device.  
  • The employee frequently is required to sit and reach and must be able to move around the work environment. 
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. 
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust. 
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal to moderate. 
  • Travel, including evening, weekend, and overnight, will be necessary.  
  • Must be able to provide valid identification for employment eligibility verification.  
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and have access to reliable transportation.  
  • A clean driving record is required to meet YMCA insurance standards.  
  • Travel between branch locations or to off-site meetings and events is required.  
  • Must reside in the YMCA of the Triangle service area (Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill and surrounding areas).
