Groundskeeper

POSITION SUMMARY: 

The Groundskeeper I performs all duties as assigned by the Facilities Director as well as ensures safety, cleanliness, and proper use or care of equipment at all times. They are responsible for trimming and mowing of grounds, trash/debris pick-up and general grounds maintenance at a level defined by the Facilities Director. They are responsible for managing these functions in accordance with the stated mission, goals, and policies established by the administrative staff, governing committees, and Board of Directors of the YMCA.  

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

• Maintains a clean and safe camp facility, including main buildings, cabins, trails, grounds, storage areas, vehicles, etc.  This includes both interior and exterior.   
• Assists in keeping grounds clean, maintained and functional for all participants; to include operating mowers, weed eaters, clippers, etc.   
• Performs all preventative maintenance required on equipment and assists with the repairing of all equipment used for grounds maintenance, as required.   
• Assists in team efforts with essential seasonal site preparations, shut downs, and unplanned events such as storm damage cleanup and repair.   
• Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Maintains regular, clear, and concise communication within area of responsibility.  

• Completion of all required annual trainings related to safety, compliance, and child protection as assigned.

• Other duties and responsibilities assigned by Facilities Director or Assistant Facilities Manager.    

QUALIFICATIONS: 

• High School Diploma/GED preferred.  
• Experience in construction, facility maintenance, vehicle maintenance, or equivalent work.   
• Ability to operate maintenance equipment and lawn maintenance equipment, and perform general maintenance and general knowledge of electrical, plumbing, and light carpentry.    
• Ability to read and follow oral and written directions.   
• The position requires the ability to work with applications on electronic devices.     
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required.    
• Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.  
• Positive attitude and enjoying working in a team-oriented environment is essential to success.   
• Multi-lingual desired but not required.

The physical demands described here represent those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  

• Office and program settings with frequent interaction in various camp spaces including extended time in nature and exposure to varied terrain, wildlife, and changing weather conditions. 
• Moderate noise levels; may be louder during youth or community activities.  
• Regular use of computer, phone, and other office technology. 
• Frequent standing, walking, bending, and reaching; occasional lifting or moving up to 40 lbs.   
• Flexible schedule required — will include early mornings, evenings, weekends. 
• Must be able to provide valid identification for employment eligibility verification.   
• Must possess a valid driver’s license and have access to reliable transportation.   
• A clean driving record is required to meet YMCA insurance standards.   
• Travel between site locations, and to off-site meetings and events may be required.  

• Must reside in the Camp Sea Gull/Camp Seafarer/Camp Kanata service area.

Salary & Benefits

This is a full-time non-exempt position with a salary starting at $17.85/hr, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
