Today, community leaders, Northwest Cary residents, Crosspointe Church leaders and YMCA staff and volunteers celebrated the opening of the Northwest Cary YMCA with a ribbon cutting ceremony.
Since 1992, families, adults and youth have called the YMCA their second home in the Cary community, and we’re excited the Northwest Cary branch is building on a tradition of service to meet the growing needs of Cary.
OPENING DOORS WIDER
Twenty years ago, the Northwest Cary region was largely undeveloped. Since then, the number of residents in this zip code alone has more than doubled, and there has been a growing need for a place to connect and stay active.
“Homes, schools and shopping centers were built, but there was no central place for people to gather,” said Tracy Howe, YMCA of the Triangle Chief Operating Officer of Executive Administration. “Teens didn’t have a place to go after school and newcomers didn’t have a place to make new friends. Families didn’t have a place to get active and connect with community. Our YMCA needed to open its doors wider.”
SHARING A VISION
Not long ago, the YMCA of the Triangle and Crosspointe Church in Cary formed a partnership to bring a YMCA to the fast-growing Northwest Cary community.
“While we are two separate organizations, we have a lot in common,” said Howe. “We were born through prayer and grown in hope. We are both determined to transform the community.”
Jonathan Bow, Lead Pastor at Crosspointe Church shares, “We believe it is in the community’s best interest to partner with another great organization, the YMCA of the Triangle, to do more together than either of us could do separately to positively affect people’s lives in this region.”

Today we celebrate the realization of this community’s dream to serve the needs of people who live here today and those who will make Northwest Cary their home in the future. As our community continues to grow, people crave personal connections more than ever. They’re searching for a place to belong.
