Four Kraft Family YMCA challenge soccer teams participated in the Wake FC Fall Invitational tournament in Holly Springs, Nov. 5 - 7. The tournament was attended by teams from across North Carolina.
Our 12U boys team, the Hotspurs, finished in a three-way tie for first in their division. Playing against classic teams in their division, the Rovers, our 14U boys team, finished group play with one win and two ties and advanced to the championship game on Sunday. By the time the clock ran out, the Rovers had won their first championship 2-0.
"I have never seen so much joy on our kids' faces than when that final whistle blew and we won our first tournament," says Coach Adam Steele. "Every player demonstrated skill and hard work and it's a true testament to the YMCA's challenge soccer program."
Four teams from the A.E. Finley YMCA also participated in the tournament. The 12U girls team, The United, was undefeated in group play and earned their spot in their division finals. Despite falling behind in the beginning, the team came out strong in the second half and ended with a tie. Following the tie, The United won the PK shootout 3-0, earning the tournament championship.
