Darlynn - This is Us
“Make a claw with your hand as you hold the knife,” says Darlynn as she helps a young camper dice a ripe tomato. “This is going to taste great.”
This isn’t culinary camp. It's Camp High Hopes, the YMCA’s subsidized summer day camp. Darlynn isn’t a chef or a dietician. She’s a volunteer who relied on the YMCA to provide a safe, fun place for her children during the summer and after school.
CONNECTING THE DOTS
“I tell everyone that the YMCA raised my kids,” says Darlynn. “I know there are thousands of parents who can’t afford that opportunity for their children. The YMCA’s Annual Campaign makes it happen."
So does Darlynn. As a volunteer at Camp High Hopes, she reads to kids, plays with them and introduces them to new activities. Three years ago, Darlynn connected Cooking Matters with Camp High Hopes. This interactive class administered by the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle teaches children how to prepare healthy meals.
“It’s a perfect fit for both organizations,” exclaims Darlynn. “The YMCA and the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle both want children to learn and develop healthy eating habits.”
GIVE FOR A BETTER US
There are growing needs in our community, but there are plenty of us. Donors, volunteers, members, neighbors and partners like you make the difference.
The YMCA Annual Campaign allows children, families and adults to lead healthy lives - regardless of their ability to pay. 100% of every dollar given through the Annual Campaign is invested in the lives of people who need the Y.
