A new control panel is set to be installed July 25 - 26 that should align the recently installed steam generator components and updated electrical system. We currently anticipate reopening the steam room by Thu., July 27.

[July 7, 2023] In late June, based on the consensus of our service partners, we moved forward with a full replacement of the steam generation system. Due to supply chain delays, 12 weeks was the most optimistic delivery timeline, so we have continued to pursue more timely alternatives.
We have been able to arrange an electrical system upfit that will allow us to utilize a more readily available steam generator.
Beginning, Mon., July 10, that electrical work is scheduled to begin, with generator installation planned for Wed., July 12.
If the aligned electrical and plumbing projects progress as expected, our hope is to reopen the steam room by the end of the week.
We greatly appreciate the patience and grace of our members while we have worked through extended diagnostics, repair efforts and what we hope to be the final steps in resuming full steam room service.

[June 22, 2023] Beginning in the spring, the steam room at our Chapel Hill - Carrboro YMCA location experienced a combination of mechanical and electrical malfunctions related to its steam generator system.
Maintenance efforts since that time have not been able to yield a long-term resolution. That work has included both electrical and plumbing experts repeatedly responding in attempts to diagnose and repair the generator. Unfortunately, each return to operational status has malfunctioned within 24 - 48 hours. We recognize the related frustration for everyone who utilizes that amenity.
The current consensus recommendation of our service partners is that repair intervention options have been exhausted and we have been advised to move forward with a full replacement of the steam generator system.
Our facilities team is expediting that order, and as soon as we have an official timeline for the replacement, we will notify members. Thank you for your patience as we work diligently to resume dependable steam room service to our members.
