The best way to get kids ready for kindergarten is to get parents ready for kindergarten.
At the YMCA, we’ve been offering after school, before school and other school programs for decades. We’ve seen a lot of new kindergarteners and a solid, nurturing environment is the best way to help them succeed.
That’s why at the YMCA, we group our youngest campers, kindergarteners, together in huddles. We assign some of our best staff to our youngest campers to ensure they have a successful, nurturing year in our After School and Before School programs.
Children who come to Y programs are often more confident because our counselors work with children to build their self-esteem. Our counselors have good relationships with the school and the teachers.
The Y helps prepare children to follow rules and structure helps them build confidence. It’s not overstating it to say that we teach life skills. Plus, kids get the active play time, creative arts and crafts and quiet homework spaces they need at YMCA After School programs.
Our philosophy of nurturing environments, small groups and building self-esteem extends to our other youth programs, like Before School, Track Out Camp and School Holiday Care days.
