THRIVE Winter Olympics at the Northwest Cary YMCA
Tuesday, January 28
Active older adults, join us for the 3rd annual THRIVE Winter Olympics at the Northwest Cary YMCA from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.! Enjoy fun and fellowship with other THRIVE groups as we engage in a friendly competition of cornhole, pickleball and chair volleyball followed by lunch and an awards ceremony. FEBRUARY

February 6 - Information Session: Camino Wonders presents the Camino de Santiago Awaits - 6 - 7:30 p.m. at the Kraft Family Y. No cost. All ages welcome.
Camino Wonder LLC Founder, Erfrain Mendoza, who is embarking on his second Camino this year conquering the final 100 kms of the French Camino, is having a session about the Camino of Santiago. Learn about this amazing hiking experience on a trail that has been walked for more than 1,000 years. Some of the Camino has been placed on the World Heritage List by the UNESCO. This is an opportunity to ask any questions that you might have about any of the Caminos.

February 9 - Starrlight Meadery/Winery in Pittsboro, NC
1 - 5 p.m.  Cost: $15 for ticket. Participants will be carpool. 
Join us for a trip to Starrlight Meadery / Winery in Pittsboro, NC for a tasting, behind-the-scenes tour and to learn the history of mead. The meads span traditional tastes, similar to white wine, to fruit-infused choices like spiced apple and blackberry. Venture into our subtle herb-infused wines, seasonal favorites like our margarita-style “Honeyed Rita,” and special wines highlighting the varieties of honey. Afterwards, we'll stroll the downtown shopping area.  

February 11 - Wellness Workshop, "The Hips don't Lie" - Hip Hinge Workshop
11:45 a.m. - 1 p.m. No cost. All ages welcome. 
Join Dr. Kelly Hobbs, PT, DPT from Stay Active PT & Wellness as she presents technical instruction on the hip hinge movements, discusses the effects of stiff joint mobility in the hip on the hip hinge and how to improve your mobility to get your hinge in workout shape! This workshop is applicable to anyone who currently uses the deadlift/hip hinge/RDL movement in their workout or attends a class where these movements are used. This workshop is also applicable to anyone who has pain or stiffness with bending to pick something up (a hip hinge movement!) Come ready to move and learn.

February 13 - Bunco at the Y
11:45 a.m. - 2 p.m. No cost.
Join us for Bunco! This social dice game is simple to learn and offers lots of room for laughter, fun and fellowship! Light Refreshments provided.

February 26 -  Breakfast & "Thrifting" in downtown Angier
8:30 a.m. - 2 p.m. No cost. Participants will carpool. Breakfast is self pay. 
We'll enjoy breakfast at Ed's Family Restaurant followed by "thrifting" at 3 stores. We will carpool from the Kraft Y at 8:30 a.m. and return by 2 p.m.


MARCH

March 12 - Outing to the Carolina Tiger Rescue, Animal Sanctuary in Chatham Co.
9 a.m. - 2 p.m. Cost: $25 for Ticket. Participants will carpool. Lunch is self pay.
We'll enjoy a 1.5 - 2 hour guided walking tour of this nonprofit sanctuary for tigers, lions and other wild cats followed by lunch in downtown Pittsboro. We will carpool from the Kraft Y at 9 a.m. and return by 2 p.m.

March  March 23 - Lunch at Cafe Carolina followed by Morning After Grace, at the Raleigh Little Theater
12:15 - 5:30 p.m. Cost: $60 includes ticket and Y transportation. Lunch is self-pay.
Morning After Grace is hilarious and heart-warming, this unconventional new comedy tackles love, loss and coming to terms with growing old. Set in a nearby Florida retirement community, this charming and big-hearted comedy takes us on an unexpected journey toward a new lease on life. Y transportation will leave from the Kraft Family Y at 12:15 p.m. and return by 5:30 p.m.

March 25 - Understanding Medicare: The Basics
11:45 a.m. - 1:15 p.m. No cost. Held at the Kraft Y. 
Rhonda Narron, with SHIIP (Seniors' Health Insurance Information Program) will cover the basics regarding the various parts of Medicare, and how & when to enroll. We will also talk about why it's important to compare plans each year during the annual Open Enrollment Period and how SHIIP can
assist you with this importation task.

YMCA Night at the Carolina Hurricanes Game
Sunday, March 30
It's YMCA Night at the Carolina Hurricanes v. NY Islanders game! Receive your discounted tickets and leave the driving to us! A payment link will be sent to participants after signing up. Payment deadline is January 10. Cost is $45 - members only. Shuttle departs at 4 p.m. and returns by 8:30 p.m. from the Taylor Family YMCA. Registration opens on December 1. Sign up.

 

APRIL

April 9 - Day Trip to Durham to visit Duke Gardens, Duke Chapel followed by Lunch
9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Cost: $25 for Y transportation. Lunch is self-pay.
We will welcome spring with a walk in Duke Gardens, an organ demonstration and self-guided walk of Duke Chapel followed by lunch. Y transportation will leave the Kraft Family Y at 9 a.m. and return by 4 p.m.

April 26 - Downtown Raleigh Trolley Ride, Mordicai House & Grounds Tour & Picnic Lunch
9 a.m. - 3 p.m. Cost: $47 includes ticket and transportation. Hop on the Raleigh Trolley for an hour ride through Historic Downtown Raleigh while learning about the sites along the way, then gather for a bring-your-own lunch picnic followed by wandering and exploring the house, chapel and 3 acre grounds. Y transportation leaves the Kraft Family Y at 9 a.m. and returns by 3 p.m.
