Lee County YMCA Renamed

The Lee County YMCA has been renamed the Ingram Family YMCA in honor of longtime Sanford community leaders Charles and Mary Lynn Ingram.

Since 1996, families, adults and youth have called the Lee County Y their second home. Looking forward, we’re excited for members to call the Ingram Family Y their preferred place for fitness and wellness. In the coming days, there will be changes to our signage, website and social media accounts to reflect the Ingram family name.

SAME GREAT PROGRAMS, IMPROVED FACILITY

While the name is changing, our great programs, staff, commitment to service and relationships will remain the same. With a new location at the former Sanford Nautilus and Racquetball Club at 1907 K M Wicker Memorial Drive, the Ingram Family Y is poised to serve members with an enhanced experience. Significant improvements have been made to the facility.

Extensive upgrades include:

  • Pool deck improvements
  • Improved racquetball courts
  • Increased natural lighting
  • New ceiling and floors
  • New fitness equipment and studios
  • Locker room enhancements
  • New facility entrance
  • Landscape upgrades
  • Convenient child care space

BUILDING A HEALTHIER COMMUNITY

“The YMCA has been at the heart of Lee County for many years,” said YMCA of the Triangle CEO Doug McMillan. “The new name reflects the Ingram family and YMCA of the Triangle’s commitment to building a healthier community.”

“The YMCA plays a critical role here in Lee County,” said Charles Ingram. “Mary Lynn and I are proud to support the Y in expanding service to our community. We’re excited about the positive impact the Y will continue to make here.”

ABOUT THE INGRAM FAMILY

Charles and Mary Lynn Ingram have been long-time residents and community supporters in Sanford, helping to make the city what it is today. The Ingram family has been a fixture in the Sanford community for more than a century. The family started the Coca-Cola Bottling Company in 1907 and three generations of the Ingram Family ran the business. Charles was president of the company until it sold in 2008.
