Like you, we are deeply saddened and angered by the horrific racially motivated mass shooting that took place at a supermarket in Buffalo this past Saturday. The victims’ families and the Buffalo community remain in our thoughts and prayers.
This senseless loss of life motivated by hate and racism is devastating for the victims’ families, the Buffalo community, and our entire nation. This has become the latest act of violence motivated by racism, hate, and bigotry, including attacks at a Walmart in El Paso, Texas; the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh; Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston and the Pulse nightclub in Orlando.
This must stop
Racism, hate and bigotry have no place in our YMCA, community, state or country. As we affirm our commitment to becoming an anti-racist, multicultural organization, we stand in solidarity today with the black and brown members of our YMCA and community.
As a YMCA team and one community, we have the opportunity each day to welcome and build common ground with everyone regardless of race, background, or perspective – continuing our work toward becoming a beacon of true inclusivity across the Triangle region.
