Mridula Balasubramaniam: President's Volunteer Service Award Recipient

Volunteering at the Y - Mridula Balasubramaniam

At the Y, we're committed to fostering a sense of social responsibility by providing opportunities to give back and support neighbors.

We are proud to congratulate Mridula Balasubramaniam, a long time volunteer at the Taylor Family Y, on earning the President's Bronze Volunteer Service Award. This award recognizes the important role of volunteers in America’s strength and national identity. It honors individuals whose service positively impacts communities and inspires those around them to take action, too. We are grateful to Mridula for contributing 104.5 hours of service to the YMCA of the Triangle in 2023. In total she has completed 291.25 hours of service with the Y.

Mridula primarily volunteers at the Taylor Family Y, warmly welcoming our members at the access desk. “She is a wonderful and hard working volunteer for our Y,” said Caroline Williams, Volunteer Engagement Director at the Taylor Family Y.

Mridula said about her experience, “I chose to volunteer at the Y because it’s a family. Everyone’s so supportive and kind. All of the employees and members all interact and are friendly with each other, and that really drew me in. A lot of other places are more individual based, and this was a positive change for me.”

Mridula likes her volunteer position at the Y because she loves meeting new people and giving back her time to the community.

“I’ve made so many new bonds and learned so much because of how supportive the environment around me is!”

Mridula attends Green Level High School and is on her school’s color guard team. In her free time, she enjoys playing soccer and reading.

If you would like to give back to your community through volunteer service, we have opportunities for YOU. Interested volunteers can search our database for opportunities best suited for their individual strengths, interests and age, then register as a volunteer to sign up.

We understand the core of a strong, diverse, vibrant, equitable and inclusive community comes from everyone's desire to belong, to help others and to contribute. Will you help us make an impact?
