Meet your Associate Justice Candidates
By Eloise Jones, Emma Campeau, and Izzie McLawhorn

Fatou Lo, a sophomore at Mount Tabor High School, is running for associate justice in the Court of Appeals. Lo says that she is the best fit for the role of associate justice because of her experiences that molded her unique outlook— a perspective that she plans to use in her role. She describes herself as dedicated, passionate, and ambitious.

Cora Hawfield, a junior at R.J. Reynolds High School, is no beginner when it comes to leadership positions. With her experience as president of her school’s debate club, Hawfield plans to take on her role of associate justice with ease and ambition. Hawfield also recounted her experience in other teen courts and that this will better allow her to take on this position.

Celeste Summers, a junior at Reagan High School, is running for associate justice. As vice president of the multicultural club, secretary of another, and roles in other clubs she is prepared for the tasks that come with being associate justice. Summers also hopes to get more people interested in YAG utilizing the platform that comes with this leadership position.

Taylor Garriot is a sophomore in the Cape Fear Academy delegation. This year, Garriot has decided to run for associate justice following her positive experience in the Court of Appeals last year. She is a hard worker dedicated to helping everyone have a great experience, just as she did. She believes she would help YAG by inspiring others to join the judicial branch and bring energy.

Katie Hayes O’Donovan is a sophomore delegate from Cape Fear Academy. She is currently part of the judicial branch and is running for associate justice. She feels well-prepared to take this responsibility since she was part of COA last year. O’Donovan believes that if elected, she would help provide new COA members with as much information as possible to make their experiences easier.

Katie Watson is a junior with the delegation of Cape Fear Academy. She currently serves as an associate justice and is re-running for election this year. She has decided to run because of her experience with this role and participation in the judicial branch. She believes she could influence people to choose judicial and help others with their work.

Samuel Johnson is a sophomore at West Carteret High School and running for associate justice. Mirroring justices that have helped him in his past year as an attorney, Johnson’s goal is to aid new and returning delegates. By growing the available resources for all delegates, Johnson strives to enhance the experiences for everyone who attends the 2024 YAG conference.
Ethan Silverman, from Ravenscroft High School, is running to be an associate justice. As a dedicated attorney, Silverman went to every Zoom call and webinar leading up to last year’s conference, in hopes of learning from his peers and perfecting his briefs. Silverman is energetic, outgoing, and always making sure everyone is having fun. By listening to feedback, helping out and being a friend to all, Silverman hopes to watch all delegates succeed in the Court of Appeals.

Josh Brown, a sophomore at North Raleigh Christian Academy, has been in YAG for two years. When he was a freshman and first-year attorney at YAG, Brown participated in the Court of Appeals All-Star Round. Brown is committed to listening and implementing suggestions and ideas from the delegates of the Court of Appeals, to create a welcoming environment. Keeping all delegates in the know, maintaining court etiquette, and keeping briefs running smoothly, are just a few of Brown’s goals for the 2024 YAG conference.
