The YMCA of the Triangle continues its Embodied Healing series with session two of this three-part, community-rooted fall program. Designed to explore the transformative power of movement and cultural arts in collective spaces, the series invites participants to experience healing through shared expression and connection.
In this session, participants will engage in all three featured activities—all-levels yoga, line dancing and African drumming—rotating through each experience with a small group assigned upon arrival. This shared journey encourages deeper connection and collective energy, as participants move, create and reflect together.
Families are warmly welcomed, with activities open to children ages 5 and up. By inviting all generations to participate side by side, the session creates space for intergenerational care, creativity, and community-building through the arts.
Line Dancing
Meladie Capers-Adams is an AFAA-certified group fitness instructor, choreographer and wellness life coach based in Durham. She leads a wide range of dance fitness formats and is known for her infectious energy and passion for dance. Her classes feel more like a party than a workout, inspiring people from all walks of life to shine on the dance floor.
African Drumming
Living Rhythms is a cultural arts company that has provided hands-on programs in West African drumming and dancing for nearly 25 years. Under the artistic patronage of Master Drummer Mamady Keita of Guinea, West Africa, it is their mission to enrich the lives of young people by creating flourishing cultural arts programs that emphasize diversity, harmony and responsible world citizenship.
Yoga
Led by Dr. Brittney Cofield-Poole (she/her), a Community Psychologist, certified restorative yoga teacher and founder of Yaa Wellness Collective, this session invites participants to reconnect with their bodies, release stress and cultivate inner balance in a safe, inclusive space.
Please dress comfortably and ready to move. Bring your own yoga mat if you have one. We’ll have extras available for those who need one.
This builds on the momentum of our Spring Community Dialogue Series, which brought together more than 270 participants from across the region to advance equity in health and well-being. With 12% of attendees joining all four sessions, the series sparked meaningful reflection, learning and action that laid the foundation for continued engagement and healing.
The event series is sponsored by Wells Fargo in a continuation of their support and commitment to racial equity in the Triangle.
