The YMCA Super Skippers are the YMCA of the Triangle’s competition jump rope team. The team is dedicated to promoting physical fitness through jump rope as a lifetime sport and by fostering confidence, discipline, responsibility and leadership.
The team trains three days a week on improving speed, endurance, strength and freestyle skills. During competition season, the team trains five days a week. They compete in regional, national and international competitions throughout the year.
Super Skippers team members also host clinics, recreational classes and summer camps at the Northwest Cary YMCA.
The YMCA Super Skippers have won dozens of national medals in the USA Jump Rope and AAU Nationals. They have also won consecutive USA Jump Rope National Championships from 2012 - 2019.
SUMMER DAY CAMP
The Super Skippers host Jump Rope Camp at the Northwest Cary YMCA during the summer. These week-long jump rope camps are offered through the Sports Camp program. Many elements of a traditional YMCA day camp are included: morning assembly, daily swim time and activity time. There are several designated portions of the day that are focused on jump rope and learning new skills.

RECREATIONAL CLASSES
In our recreational classes, athletes between the ages of 6 and 12 learn new skills in the single rope and double dutch areas of the sport of jump rope. This class is great for beginners with no experience, or newer athletes who want to further their knowledge of the sport, without competing. Recreational classes are once a week and operate in 5-week sessions. Tryouts are not required for our recreational classes.

DEVELOPMENTAL TEAM
The Developmental Team is available only for YMCA Members after attending tryouts held in August of every year. This team will compete in a local competition while working through the year on new skills and developing routines. The Developmental Team practices once a week. Their season starts in September and ends earlier than the Competition Team.
COMPETITION TEAM
The Competition Team is available only for YMCA Members after attending tryouts held in August of every year. This team will compete throughout the year while working on new skills and developing routines. The Competition Team practices two to four times a week. Their season runs from September - mid to late May for younger/newer athletes and September - late June to mid July for older/more experienced athletes.
TRYOUT SKILLS
Everyone will be asked to perform a Double Dutch Routine, Single Rope Skills, Speed and Double Unders. Jumpers trying out for the Elite Team should be able to complete almost everything that is asked of them, while jumpers trying out for the Developmental Team can still potentially make the team without being able to do everything.
You do not have to be a YMCA member to try out for the team; you may wait to purchase a membership after you are invited to join the team.
