Get Your Teen Involved at the YMCA

Teens wanting to fill their after school time with meaningful activities discover the Y has what they need to grow, learn and serve.

“Participants in our leadership programs can expect to make new friends, find the support they need and gain the confidence to challenge themselves,” said Leigh Dauchert, NC YMCA Youth & Government State Director.

WE GROW LEADERS

Tyla Jones has been involved with Kerr Family YMCA teen programs for several years. Because of her passion to be a positive influence on kids, Tyla works with the Y Learning program and at YMCA's Camp High Hopes for kids from low-income families.

“I’ve gained a lot of great friends who have pushed me to be the best student and young adult that I can be. As I head to college in the fall, I have all the lessons I’ve learned to help me be successful,” said Tyla.

During the school year, teens attend meetings, take part in volunteer opportunities, college tours and learn more about higher education options.

"Building a strong foundation in leadership early in life encourages teens to take an active role in strengthening their communities as adults,” said Leigh.

PREPARING FOR THE FUTURE

From mock United Nations events, legislative debates in the State Capitol, spring break mission trips and college tours, the YMCA of the Triangle offers teens new experiences and enriching opportunities.

Interested teens can join Leaders Club, where volunteering and leadership go hand in hand. Lightner Y Achievers helps teens learn valuable skills to prepare for college and professional life. During the school year and the summer, YMCA service trips take teens throughout the nation and across the world to serve others.

For civic-minded teens, Middle School United Nations and YMCA NC Youth & Government are good choices.
