Finley Frenzy Youth Triathlon
Each year, the YMCA of the Triangle introduces more than 200 kids ages 7 – 14 to the excitement of triathlon racing. The Finley Frenzy is a late‑summer youth triathlon designed to be fun, supportive and age‑appropriate for first‑time and returning athletes.
Courses are tailored by age group, allowing kids to compete alongside peers while building confidence and lifelong healthy habits.
Register by August 1 to guarantee a race shirt.

Ages 7 – 9
Swim: 75 yards
Bike: 2 miles
Run: ½ mile
Ages 10 – 11
Swim: 175 yards
Bike: 4 miles
Run: 1 mile
Ages 12 – 14
Swim: 175 yards
Bike: 4 miles
Run: 1 mile
Course maps will be available closer to race day.
Five‑Week Training Program
In addition to the race, the YMCA offers a five‑week training program led by certified fitness coaches. The program helps participants prepare both physically and mentally for race day.
Training includes:
- Skill development for swimming, biking and running
- Race‑day readiness and confidence building
- Instruction on race chip timing and course logistics
- Helpful tips from experienced coaches
Important: Registering for training does not include race registration. Participants must register separately for the triathlon event.

Parent Information
Parents are expected to remain onsite as the primary supervisor of their child during practices and on race day. This includes restroom needs and addressing any challenges that may arise. YMCA sports staff will also be present, allowing coaches to focus on instruction and athlete support.
