Chik-Fil-A Foundation
In January, YMCA Camp Kanata was honored with the Chick-fil-A True Inspiration Award and celebrated with community leaders, YMCA staff and campers. Owner/operator Dave Butts presented Camp Kanata with a $75,000 check at the Harrison Square Chick-fil-A in Cary.
“We are so grateful for the community’s support and to the Chick-fil-A Foundation for selecting us as a finalist, said Shane Brown, Camp Kanata Executive Director. “This grant will allow us to help even more children in our community.”
Over the next three years, the money will help fund camperships and leadership opportunities for children and teens in our community.
YOUR VOTE MATTERED
Dave Butts is also a Camp Kanata volunteer and nominated Camp Kanata for the True Inspiration Award.
"When I became aware of the grant, it was just a natural fit," said Dave. "There are so many similarities between camp and Chick-fil-A."
The Chick-fil-A Foundation reviewed the nomination and selected Camp Kanata as one of three organizations in the Atlantic Division. For two weeks in October, we asked former campers, staff, donors and Camp Kanata to vote through the Chick-fil-A One app. The votes came in and Dave was thrilled to learn Camp Kanata earned the most votes.
"This grant will ensure that many kids can attend Camp Kanata - regardless of their personal situations," said Dave. "These children will become enriched by the influence of the staff and other campers."
The True Inspiration Award honors organizations that support innovative education, emerging leadership development and youth entrepreneurship.
