YMCA Camp Excel: Wakefield Middle School

2300 Wakefield Pines Dr, Raleigh, NC 27614

We are already planning for the summer and we can’t wait to see your children in 2024!

Camp Excel, formerly known as YMCA Camp High Hopes, is a Summer Day Camp program offered to children in our community who may already be served through one of our high-needs programs. Camp Excelis fully subsidized by donations to the YMCA's Annual Campaign.

At Camp Excel, children participate in character development activities, literacy instruction, sports and swim lessons. Through the YMCA's partnership with Wake County Public Schools, each child will receive a snack and a warm, nutritious meal every day.

Camp Excel offers traditional day camp programs, as well as a CILT program, Kindergarten Readiness and Middle School camp. The Camper In Leadership Training program (CILT) provides motivated teens with hands-on leadership experience as they encourage, guide and lead younger campers.

CILT

Campers in Leadership Training is for our oldest campers, age 13 - 15. These campers will enjoy special activities, and hands-on training and leadership skills and development.

Middle School

Camp High Hopes Middle School is for grades 6 - 8. Older campers enjoy more privileges and freedom than younger campers while still being safe and participating in general day camp activities.

Kindergarten Readiness

This smaller camp-within-a-camp model is for our rising kindergartners. We take special care of our youngest campers and help prepare them for kindergarten and the additional responsibilities that school brings. Our staff to child ratios are smaller for this camp too to allow for more individual attention.

At Camp, Character Matters

At YMCA Summer Day Camp, campers earn beads for exemplifying our five character traits: Honesty, Respect, Caring, Responsibility and Faith. Campers can earn beads daily by being a good friend, picking up after themselves or leading a camp prayer.
