On Tuesday, September 29, a small, socially-distanced group of YMCA leaders and Johnston County residents celebrated the generous gift of the former Pineville Club from Rebecca Flowers to the YMCA of the Triangle to expand service in Johnston County. The facility will be known as the East Triangle YMCA.
"We have been dreaming of a permanent home in Johnston County for more than 25 years," said Bruce Ham, YMCA of the Triangle Chief Development Officer. "The gift of this facility makes that possible."
Currently, the Y offers youth soccer, flag football, basketball and tee-ball throughout the year in Johnston County and runs three after school programs including Riverwood Elementary and Riverwood Middle and River Dell Elementary. During the summer, we offer YMCA Summer Day Camp at East Clayton Elementary and Cleveland Middle School.
"I want to speak to the name of this facility," said Doug McMillan. "It speaks to the ambition of the people of Johnston County. It's not the Clayton Y or the Johnston County Y. It's the East Triangle Y and that represents the spirit of expanded service throughout the community."
During the event, it was announced that Melissa Oliver will serve as Branch Executive Director of the East Triangle YMCA. Oliver has served the YMCA of the Triangle in a variety of roles - most recently as a Vice President in Financial Development.
