We can't do it alone. Thanks to partners like the United Way of the Greater Triangle, our YMCA is able to provide opportunities to serve all.
Cradle to Career Grant
Nearly half of the students in the Triangle are not ready for college - leaving the next generation of leaders behind. Thanks to a $150,000 grant from the United Way of the Greater Triangle, we are able to support children on their educational journey. The funds will be dispersed over a two-year period.
For two years, United Way of the Greater Triangle funds are supporting students at Southeast Raleigh Elementary and Walnut Creek Elementary Schools through Club R.O.A.R. (Reaching Our Awesome Results). The program provides participants with a healthy snack as well as time focused on physical activity, academic enrichment, leadership development and community building.
Every afternoon after the school day, students participate in academic instruction, homework assistance and an hour of enrichment activities. The Y partners with other local organizations to offer enrichment classes in the Arts and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) that focus on improving spirit, mind and body.
“We are addressing the inequity that exists in our community and closing the gaps,” says Rodney McCormick, Southeast Raleigh Community Outreach Director.
