The YMCA is pleased to be a partner with the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission's Tackle Loaner Program.
First-time and novice anglers in North Carolina are encouraged to borrow rods and reels free of charge to join in the fun of fishing!
- The Tackle Loaner Program (TLP) operates like a library. Anglers of all ages register at participating locations to receive a tackle loaner ID card, which allows them to check out a rod and reel.
- The tackle is available through numerous city, county and state parks around North Carolina.
- TLP ID cards can be used at other participating sites in North Carolina, but rods and reels must be returned to the original loaner site.
- First-time participants under age 16 will receive a free mini-tackle box.
Adaptive Fishing Gear
Through the Tackle Loaner Program, anglers of all skills levels are encouraged to ‘check out’ rods and reels for free – just like a library system! Adaptive fishing gear is available to borrow at many of the NCWRC’s Tackle Loaner Program sites across the state. These items include a forearm pole holder, a pole grasping cuff (left or right hand) and the ‘Reel Deal’ Velcro reel adapter and palm cuff kit, all designed for individuals with limited hand or finger mobility. A wheelchair pole holder is also available at some sites. Learn more about accessible fishing opportunities with NC Wildlife.
