The heart of our Ingram Family YMCA is our members, volunteers, and staff. That being the case, we're especially excited to spotlight Tenika McMillan, who has made an impact in many roles here at the Y. We appreciate all that she does for our community and are so glad that she shares her time with us.
Tenika celebrated her 10-year anniversary with us earlier in July, so we wanted to take a moment to ask her about the “Why?” behind her Y.
“I started with the Y as a member when we were in the Spring Lane shopping center. I loved taking group fitness classes so much that one of the instructors invited me to join the team as a group fitness instructor.
At the time, I became certified in Body Pump and started out by teaching strength classes. Since then, the YMCA has allowed me to expand my connections with our members through other group fitness classes, such as Spin and Group Ex.
In addition to engaging members with classes that I have taught over the years, I have also had the opportunity to serve in KidZone, Welcome Center, and most recently as a Membership Engagement Specialist.
Over the years, I have watched our members grow in their fitness journeys and have bore witness to some amazing transformations. In turn they push me to be a better instructor!
I love that the YMCA is like family here at the Ingram Branch. I love seeing all the familiar faces and new exciting faces that grace our doors. I take pride in knowing each and every one of our members, maintaining old connections and making new connections. Every day is a joy at the YMCA, never feeling like work but walking in my calling.”
We are so proud to shine the spotlight on Tenika. She makes the Y feel like family, and we are so happy she’s part of ours.
