We are pleased to welcome home David Heggie as the new Branch Executive Director for the Taylor Family YMCA.
David has an extensive background with the YMCA, holding many executive leadership positions. Most recently, he served as President and CEO of the Eastern Carolina YMCA in New Bern, NC. Previously, David worked for 20 years at the YMCA of Greensboro, holding multiple roles from Associate Executive Director to Interim CEO. He has served on numerous volunteer boards including the North Carolina Alliance of YMCAs, the National Conference for Community and Justice, The Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro, Hope Academy and Rotary Club, where he has been twice honored with service awards.
David is no stranger to Cary, having grown up in the area. He has fond memories of playing Cary Pop Warner Football and wrestling in the Cary Wrestling Club. David formed lifelong friendships during his days at Adams Elementary School and East Cary Middle School. As a teen, David remembers playing basketball at the Taylor Family Y. David continued to excel athletically as a running back for Guilford College while earning his history degree and being honored with the Nereus C. English Athletic Leadership Award. He was inducted into the Guilford College Athletics Hall of Fame in 2013.
Driven by faith and the desire to build community, David is guided by Muhammad Ali’s famous quote, “service to others is the rent we pay for our room here on Earth.” He is known as a cause-driven leader with exceptional people development skills. His experience assembling, empowering and developing successful boards will help the Taylor Y continue to be the pillar of the community that it has been for the last 30 years.
David shared, “I am inspired by the Taylor YMCA’s legacy of leadership and service to the community and am eager to be a part of that great legacy!”
