The heart of our Durham YMCA is our members, volunteers and staff. We are blessed with staff members who have deep roots in our programs, and bring the perspective of once being youth participants to their leadership roles. Jonathan Washburn is one of those special individuals who lets our kids know that they're an important part of the Y family.
"My Y journey dates all the way back to when I was a kid going to YMCA camps and after school growing up. Because of that, I always had an appreciation for the Y and the way they help kids grow and develop. I loved coming to the Y as a kid because I knew that I would enjoy my time there and it had a huge impact on the person I am today.
"As for when I started working at the Y, I started back in 2016. I wanted to work with kids and have a positive impact on them the same way the Y helped impact me when I was young. I enjoy working for the YMCA because of the help and support others give you when you need it. It isn’t uncommon to see people take time out of what they’re doing to help support you in whatever you need.
"Outside of the YMCA, I enjoy watching and playing sports as well as hanging out with friends. I have always enjoyed sports which is why I want to enter the sports industry at some point, either with a professional baseball team or youth sports (still haven’t decided quite yet). Thank you so much for taking a little bit of time to learn about me!"
