About the Fellowship

The Fellowship is an immersive program that brings together a diverse group of up to 25 teens and young adults and provides them with the tools needed to experiment, collaborate, and grow as a leader - at no cost to the participant.

Fellows explore job opportunities as they work alongside industry professionals. Participants leave the program with stronger communication and analytical skills, more confidence, and a network of eager community partners looking to support their career development.

Additional Program Information

Although location is not a strict requirement, preference will be given to fellows residing in our “Neighbor Zone”. The Neighbor Zone is based on the six census tracts in the Rock Quarry Road Corridor surrounding the 32-acre SECU Beacon site.

SER YMCA Fellowship aims to engage a diverse cohort of young people that reflect our community. Therefore, applications from individuals from our 6-census tract zone, as well as Black, Indigenous, and other marginalized races, persons with disability, and those who identify as gender-diverse and/or LGBTQIA+, are strongly encouraged to apply.

English Language Requirement: A working knowledge of English is an important prerequisite for participation in the program for general communication purposes. All application materials must be submitted in English.

Application Deadline: All applications must be submitted by September 13, 2024. Each applicant must complete the entire form. Please note that incomplete applications will not be reviewed. After reviewing the materials, we will reach out to schedule interviews with a short list of candidates.

Interviews: Candidates who successfully clear the application stage will be called in for an online interview. Each interview will last between 15 to 30 minutes and will include questions on the applicant’s motivation, suitability for the program, and relevant experience.

Selection Process: Fellows will be selected by the Director of Workforce Development and the Director of Teen Programs following an application process. Selection will be based on a set of criteria including a desire to network with others, and a clear explanation of how the fellowship will benefit their future continuing education and/or employment plans.

Fellowship Compensation: Each fellow will become an employee of SER YMCA. They will be paid $12.50/hour for the time spent in meetings and the 50-hour internship at the end of the fellowship.

Office Location and Contact Information: The Southeast Raleigh YMCA is based in Southeast Raleigh at 1436 Rock Quarry Rd, Raleigh, NC 27610. We are easy to find, located right off exit 300 on I-40.
