The YMCA's Blood Pressure Self-Monitoring program is a way for participants to work with healthy heart ambassadors and self-monitor their blood pressure. The program goal is to reduce blood pressure, increase awareness of triggers that elevate blood pressure and develop healthier eating habits.
Participants will record their blood pressure readings using an easy-to-use, self-selecting tracking tool. The YMCA will provide options for participants who may need a home blood pressure monitor.
Heart Healthy Ambassadors will train participants in using blood pressure cuffs and provide ongoing support.
This self-guided program is four months long, with participants beginning in January, May and September. Participants measure their blood pressure twice a month, attend two personalized consultations per month and attend monthly nutrition education seminars.
