Saine Sallah (Taylor Family YMCA) and Zenai Randle (Northwest Cary YMCA), teen participants in the YMCA of the Triangle Leaders Club, are the 2024 recipients of the Hannah Viall Memorial Scholarship. They each received a $2,500 college scholarship, which Saine will use to attend Cape Fear Community College and Zenai will use at North Carolina A&T.
The Hannah Viall Memorial Scholarship is awarded each spring to at least one rising college freshman from a YMCA of the Triangle Leaders Club chapter. Recipients are chosen for exemplary love, inclusion, kindness and community service hours. The scholarship is named for Hannah Viall, a Kerr Leaders Club student and Y Guides participant who lost her life in a tragic car accident in 2018. To honor her legacy, her parents, Dean and Erika, established a YMCA endowment to provide annual scholarship aid for Leaders Club students.
The YMCA Leaders Club is a year-long leadership-development program for middle and high school teens. This program provides teens with extensive leadership training and volunteer opportunities that support YMCA programs and services to the community.
