MLK Weekend Events 2025

National Day of Racial Healing Community Conversation

Saturday, Jan. 18, 9 a.m. – noon with a breakfast 8 a.m.
First Baptist Church of Raleigh, N. Salisbury Street

Together with The Encouraging Place, Triangle MLK Committee, Raleigh Chamber, Wake County and Wake Together, the YMCA will co-host a local interactive gathering, open to the community, for the Kellogg Foundation’s National Day of Racial Healing. The event is sponsored by Wells Fargo

The event at First Baptist Church is an opportunity to bring all people together in their common humanity and inspire collective action to create a more just and equitable world.

The morning will feature continental breakfast, a keynote speaker and small group breakout sessions. Doors open and breakfast is available starting at 8 a.m. with the program beginning at 9 a.m.

45th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebrations

Join your community with a variety of events held in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. These events are held in conjunction with the Triangle MLK Committee. 

Wreath Laying Ceremony

Friday, Jan. 17, 9 a.m. 
1215 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd, Raleigh

Join this gathering of local leaders, clergy, and community for the Triangle MLK Holiday Weekend kickoff event and wreath-laying ceremony at the statue of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. to honor his life and as a symbol of solidarity towards achieving a more beloved community. 

Interfaith Prayer Breakfast

Monday, Jan. 20, 7 – 9 a.m. 
Sheraton Imperial Hotel, Durham

The YMCA of the Triangle is a co-sponsor of the annual breakfast presented by the Triangle MLK Committee that brings together community members and leaders in celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr.’s enduring legacy. A Lightner Y Achievers teen will be among the slate of speakers in the first half of the program.

Keynote speaker: Donna Coletrane Battle, PhD

  • Doors open at 6 a.m. Breakfast is available until 8 a.m.
  • The program starts at 7:15 a.m.

Memorial March

Monday, Jan. 20, 11 a.m. 
Downtown Raleigh

The Lightner Y Achievers will lead the YMCA of the Triangle’s presence at the annual MLK Day March. March line-up begins at 10 a.m. with the event beginning at 11 a.m. from the State Capitol. 

Day of Service

Monday, Jan. 20,  All Day

MLK Day is the only federal holiday designated as a National Day of Service to encourage individuals to volunteer within their communities in honor of Dr. King's legacy. Several YMCA of the Triangle branches are hosting events for staff, members and neighbors to come together for a common goal.
