Power Scholars is a five-week summer learning program held in conjunction with the Wake County Public School System. Elementary school students who are struggling to meet school system benchmarks attend Power Scholars at the recommendation of their school.
During the program, children have 40 hours of math and reading in classrooms with licensed teachers and educators. Power Scholars is often described as "summer school with enrichments."
The average student saw learning growth of two months in literacy and one month in math and was able to reach benchmarks after five weeks.
Even better, students enjoyed enrichment activities and a fun and creative learning environment based on the BellXcel curriculum, a nationally recognized curriculum for students and teachers.
YMCA Power Scholars is fully funded by the YMCA's Annual Campaign and is offered at no cost to participants.
