Diversability Swim Lessons
Diversability Swim Lessons is a program designed to teach individuals of all ages with special needs how to swim and gain comfort in the water. At the Y, we believe that everyone should be able to learn to swim, regardless of their physical and cognitive ability.
Junior Lifeguard
If you love to swim and care about the safety of others, find your purpose as a Junior Lifeguard! Gain the technical and interpersonal skills required of a lifeguard and learn about water safety and swim instruction. Graduates of this program will build confidence and improve leadership skills in and out of the pool and have the opportunity to be a Y lifeguard in the future!
Lifeguard Training
The YMCA offers a full American Red Cross Lifeguard Training course that includes CPR for the Professional Rescuer, first aid, administering emergency oxygen, equipment-based rescues for aquatic environments, accident prevention and decision-making skills.
Masters Swim
The word “Masters” has nothing to do with your skill level or current ability in the pool; just your age. Master Swim is open to adults 18 and older who are looking to improve their fitness through the sport of swimming.
Workouts vary throughout the week and focus on speed, endurance, and technique.
Outdoor Pools
The YMCA of the Triangle has 11 outdoor pools for members to enjoy. We’ve got lap lanes, toddler pools, zero-entry pools, water slides and splash pads. Not to mention generous deck space, plenty of chairs and even shade.
We encourage all our YMCA members to swim and play at any of our 11 outdoor pools.
Parent & Child Swim Lessons
The YMCA offers swim lessons for babies and toddlers ages 6 - 36 months and their parents. Playgroup classes are offered for children ages 6 - 18 months and parent-child classes are offered for children ages 18 months - 3 years.
This water introduction program helps the parent and the child get used to the water and see the pool as fun.
Preschool Swim Lessons
The YMCA of the Triangle offers progressive swim lessons for ages 3 - 5. YMCA swim lessons are taught year-round in our indoor and outdoor pools.
We use class levels to ensure your preschooler is placed according to his/ her ability. Children are evaluated at the beginning of each session and placed in the appropriate class based on demonstrated ability.
Beginner
Private Swim Lessons
The YMCA is offering private swim lessons for all YMCA Members at select branches. Private swim lessons allow a participant to work at a personalized level and on specific skills. For example, an instructor can work on a specific stroke, turn, or on encouraging a new swimmer to put their face in the water or jump from the edge of the pool.
Stroke School
Stroke School is an advanced series of swim instruction for youth who are interested in stroke proficiency for swim teams or lifeguarding certifications.
Summer Swim Team
YMCA summer swim teams are for Y members ages 5 to 18. Swimmers learn the importance of teamwork, sportsmanship and goal setting.
Swimmers compete in a series of meets during the summer against other YMCA of the Triangle branches.
Practices are age-specific and held in the afternoon/evening, Monday through Thursday.
Teen & Adult Swim Lessons
At the YMCA, we offer swim lessons for the beginner and for people looking to improve their strokes. Teen and adult swim lessons are for people age 13 and older. These lessons are offered in two categories:
YOTA Swim Team Prep
The YMCA's YOTA Prep swim program provides a great bridge between swim lessons and the YOTA swim team. We offer two different Prep programs, depending on swimmer age.
Youth Swim Lessons
YMCA youth swim lessons emphasize water safety, skill and stroke development and are offered year-round for swimmers ages 6 - 12 of all skill levels. YMCA swim lessons emphasize water safety, skill and stroke development.
Beginning swimmers are introduced to basic stroke movement and learn how to be more comfortable in the water. More advanced swimmers are instructed in stroke technique, endurance and safety skills.
